Jessie's visit

This blog comes with the funniest of stories. Jessie wanted to get the kiddos out camping and on the river, and we thought it would be a great idea. Mother nature had different ideas, as the only day we could do an over night was socked in, and just pouring rain the whole time. We wavered as to if we should try to be tough, or if it would be miserable, looked at the increasingly yucky weather on the weather channel, and then finally said "what the heck, lets give it a go!" I cant explain to you without writing a novel what we drove through on our way to the Colorado River put in at Pumphouse. Down pouring, never ending, relentless rain. Fog, Hail, mist, might have had some snow, it was ridiculous. Brett kept insisting that it might clear up just around the bend, so we keep on driving. We get to the put in, it clears up, the clouds break above us, and we were greeted with a rainbow, just as the sun goes down. The kids enjoyed a campfire, and smores, and the night went well. The next morning, it was cloudy and yucky again, and against my best judgment, we decided to push for it, and try for a day on the river. It couldnt have been better. The sky once again, seemed to magically open up, and we didnt get a drop of rain all day. It was amazing. Hindi giggled her way through the small rapids, and both of the Copeland kids seemed to really enjoy themselves. Jessie was brave enough to try some cliff jumping, where she earned herself a battle scar (bruise) to the likes that I have never seen in my life! It was a spectacular day- one that I am so glad my husband pushed to convince us would be worth it. It was more than worth it!

Steamboat RODEO!

Sometimes it is about the kids...but sometimes, it is obviously about us adults. This rodeo seems to be an example of something the kids enjoyed, but the adults really enjoyed! There was some goat roping...no really, there was! Molly tried to catch a sheep with a tag...but didnt quite get the idea, and ended up alone, watching the action unfold in front of her! But the highlight seemed to be the carriage ride in! A great last night in Steamboat!

Fish Creek Falls

Of course my child is naked! We were trying to enjoy every last little min. we all had together in Steamboat, so opted for a quick hike up to Fish Creek Falls. In all the years spending time in Steamboat, I had never been. It was pretty special. One last fun activity as a family, before we all ended up going separate ways, back to our own corners of the country.

Swimming in Steamboat

I could seriously live with a pool in my back yard. Seriously! The girls loved it. Molly gained all sorts of confidence jumping off the edge, and going under, knowing that her little PFD would pop her right up again. She floated on her back, and her front, and maya watched curiously from the side. Ah, lazy afternoons at the pool...what a life!

Family Colorado River trip

This is what Brett was the most excited about. he LOVES showing his family what our life is like out here, including what sort of adventurous activities we do! I of course worry about having enough times, people being comfortable, and all those things that mothers worry about...he just wants his family to have fun. And fun it was. Jon and Jenna were brave and paddled the ducky through the rapids. All three of the boys cliff jumped, while Nana nervously watched from below, and we all enjoyed a soak in the hot springs. It was a good day....It is sometimes hard to admit that my husband is right!

Rabbit Ears Pass Hike

We had great intentions...it was going to be a phenomenal couple hour hike through the serene mountainside of Rabbit Ears Pass. About a quarter of a mile into it, the trail disappeared, not to be found again, the mosquitoes set in, and it didn't quite happen as I had imagined. But the scenery was phenomenal...what about the Steamboat area isn't? It was a sweet little morning with family, so what if it didn't go quite according to plan?

Ah....our steamboat home!

The best thing about Steamboat, was we just "were". We were happy, relaxed, calm, and just at home with each other. It was so nice to not have any agenda, or motives, but just to enjoy being together as a family. That of course makes papa jump into photo mode, and we all benefit from the amazing shots he comes up with!
